From the President

Moshe Cohen

A few years ago I was in search of a Schul, a place of worship that I felt I could be a part of, a Synagogue emanating warmth, caring, and need - the important element being warmth. Sitting in the rear of the Sanctuary at Agudas Achim’s High Holy Day services, I witnessed a diverse congregation. Some congregants were from the Soviet Union, others from far away suburbs to the north and south, young people, some congregants of color, all participating as brothers and sisters. That in and of itself to me was a glorification of G-d - “Caring and praying together”. I knew from that High Holy Day experience I was going to be a member of Agudas Achim.

My first involvment was attendance at Shabbat services. To be a part of the Minyan and pray with a small group of congregants, Rabbi Lefkowitz’s sermon and the Kiddush following services, has made my weekly Shabbat experience one I want you to share and enjoy.

The adult education classes given by our teacher and scholar, Rabbi Lefkowitz, and now as well our Hebrew class taught by our dynamic and able teacher Mrs. Siegel, is to me a total learning experience. Studying at Agudas Achim has given my classmates and myself the impetus to truly understand the great messages of our Jewish world, to read and understand our Bible, our history and our religion.

I am privileged to be the President of Agudas Achim, working with an inspiring board. We have plans for the future that will ensure our Schul its proper place as the most beautiful and relevant Jewish House of Worship in the Chicago area. I am honored to be a part of this growth as your President. I will work diligently to bring all of us, both members and visitors alike, to a rewarding place in our relationship with G-d and our People.

Shalom, Moshe Cohen
